EL PASO, TEXAS - May 10, 2022 - Strange Scaffold is excited to announce their first foray into games publishing, with noted absurdist indie developer Damien Crawford. The first game to be released as part of the new initiative is the upcoming roguelite RPG about fantasy adventurer PTSD and building a town next to a psychic hellmaw, Purgatory Dungeoneer.

The project’s full proper title is My Grandpa Died And All He Left Me Was This 1 Dungeon In Purgatory Filled With Nihilistic Adventurers, continuing Strange Scaffold’s monopoly on dangerously long game names via the joyous partnership.

Strange Scaffold and its founder Xalavier Nelson Jr. is well noted for releasing work that attempts to expand the space of indie games by bringing together teams of diverse, talented developers to create ambitious projects in ways that are faster, cheaper, and more sustainable than it is currently assumed can be accomplished. Among these efforts are games including An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs, Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, and the upcoming El Paso, Elsewhere.

Regarding the choice to branch into publishing, Strange Scaffold Director Xalavier Nelson Jr. has this to say:
"I think of myself as a helicopter, and behind me is Death, flying a MIG-21. He sends a barrage of heat-seeking missiles towards my vulnerable chassis, and every project I take on is chaff sent into the air, delaying my demise in the face of the grave's fury. I will reach God himself through a strategy of unpredictable diversification and expertly-executed airborne maneuvers and it is with this hope that I approach every day as a bright and brilliant opportunity to make my little slice of this Earth a better place before boldly knocking at Heaven's door when my work is Done."

Damien Crawford brings to the partnership an impressive collection of self-published indie games with incredibly long titles, and truly groundbreaking premises. Under the name Cannibal Interactive, Crawford has released over 20 games, such as I Have Low Stats But My Class Is "Leader", So I Recruited Everyone I Know To Fight The Dark Lord and My Older Sister Left The Computer So I Got On & Found Myself Trying To Coordinate A Raid In A Game & I Don't Play MMO's, as well as the recently well-received Damien Crawford's Golf Experience 2022. Purgatory Dungeoneer is a roguelite RPG about plundering a psychic hellmaw for personal closure, and the resources to build a town beyond the grave. The player takes the role of mayor for a supernatural medieval village that is home to a wide cast of former adventurers. The player must recruit these retired adventurers, send them into the hellmaw for resources, and attempt to resolve their personal stories. The goal is to not only complete the town--but the people within it.

With over 400 possible residents, and a pool of 100 classes, Purgatory Dungeoneer is a tactically deep game about balancing your party to brave the depths of the hellmaw and come back intact. The game features a wide array of skills and abilities, but no consumable items, so each attempt at the dungeon requires planning, skill, and a shrewdly judged party configuration to succeed.

The game is slated for Q3 2022, with further details to follow closer to launch.
