A demo for Octopus City Blues, a surreal 2D adventure game about life on a giant octopus, is now available on Steam and itch.io as part of Steam Next Fest. The lengthy, cross-platform PC demo will remain available after the event.
Octopus City Blues is a narrative adventure where players assume the role of Kaf Kafkaryan, a middle-aged tentacle trimmer living on a colossal mollusc. After going through a bizarre job interview involving the hallucinogenic octoblood substance and a slimy creature, Kaf begins to experience recurring dreams spanning various strange worlds. A central conspiracy links these dreams with reality, one that Kaf will have to unravel as the line between the two begins to blur.
Originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign in late 2013, the small team at Ghost in a Bottle has largely worked part-time to realize an ambitious project with richly detailed pixel art and simulated character schedules. In late 2021, Ghost in a Bottle received additional funding from the Dutch Midgame Fund, revitalizing development and helping the developers dedicate more time and resources to the project.
The game is scheduled for PC release in Q2 2024, and will have the following features:
Beautiful animated pixel art accompanied by a dark and varied soundtrack.
Learning rumors by observing and talking to people.
Spreading gossip and lies to change the world.
Managing stress and making difficult choices in tense situations.
Over 50 eccentric NPCs with their own attitudes, confidants, and schedules.
A rich branching narrative revolving around a dark conspiracy.
