Super Crowd :

Hamburg, 9th of February 2024 - Thousands of industry professionals have lost their jobs in the last months and more and more established game studios have been forced to shut down their business including Mimimi Productions, THREAKS, Triple Topping and others. Hamburg Games Conference decided to make the topic a priority and will offer free tickets as well as panel discussions about dealing with layoffs from March 5th to 6th 2024.

Owing to the generous support of partners such as PLITCH, IGDA, Immutable and Marchsreiter Communications, the organizers of Hamburg Games Conference are offering an OPPORTUNITY TICKET where industry professionals who have been part of recent layoffs can apply for a FREE B2B conference pass worth more than 400 € including MeetToMatch access as well as a 1-year IGDA membership. The ticket application form can be accessed here

Additionally, there will be two panel discussions about the recent layoffs allowing those directly affected to talk about their experience:

Wolf Lang, former co-founder of THREAKS GmbH, will host a panel discussing the topic: When is a good moment to open close a game studio? Together with veteran game studio CEOs such as Julian Mautner (Still Alive Games) and Astrid Mie Refstrup (Founder Triple Topping), they will talk about the question eventually all game devs need to ask themselves.

The second panel is called: Layoffs - How can you deal with them? Recently laid off industry professionals will be providing first-hand insights about their experiences and discuss different perspectives.

Wolf Lang on the situation “The recent layoffs and studio closures might not hit everyone equally but for many, they could very well be the reason to leave this industry for good. We need to have an honest conversation about such a difficult topic, and we firmly believe that it is crucial to stick together as a professional community and help people back on their feet.”

Since Hamburg Games Conference is all about confidentiality and successful networking, none of the talks will be recorded or streamed. Furthermore, Hamburg Games Conference will be hosting a dedicated career area enabling hiring companies to connect with industry professionals.
