GameRefinery, a Liftoff Company, has released its latest analysis of the US, China, and Japan’s key mobile games markets for April 2022. GameRefinery’s analysts have hand-picked their top updates from April’s data for each country, including new releases, special events, and game updates.

Here’s what they found:

  • Hybrid elements are key to the success of 4X titles. In April's top-grossing chart, many newer hybrid 4X strategy games, including Walking Dead: Survivors, Age of Origins, and Puzzles & Survival, reached new top-grossing ranks.

  • Raid: Shadow Legends has brought back Battle Pass! Initially introduced for just one season in 2020, it’s resurfaced for this new iteration, Forge Pass.

  • April brought further innovation with blockchain features. Summoner’s War: Lost Centuria celebrated its first anniversary with new play-to-earn blockchain mechanics. And the social metaverse app Highrise awarded NFT owners with Creature Coins for participating in a limited-time exclusive event.

  • Roblox remains the go-to platform for musical collaborations. Roblox hosted a GRAMMY celebration in a Las Vegas Strip social hangout where players could fly around with planes and attend a virtual concert by GRAMMY-nominated artists.

  • Genshin Impact had a massive update with its Hues of the Violet event, which brought loads of new content, including main quests, side quests, and banner gachas.

  • Tencent’s MMORPG Black Desert Mobile (黑色沙漠) launched in the Chinese market last month and hit first in the download list.
