London, UK – July 25, 2022 – Today, The Pokémon Company International announced the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Online Illustration Exhibition. From August 10, 2022, fans will be able to experience the popular trading card game in a whole new way with free access to a digital gallery of illustrations spanning more than 26 years of Pokémon.
This online exhibition will be available in 10 languages, and visitors will be able to appreciate close-ups of the beautiful artwork of hundreds of Pokémon TCG cards from three categories:
- “Life” focuses on the lives of Pokémon and shows them in a variety of different habitats.
- “History” looks back at over 26 years of the Pokémon Trading Card Game from 1996, when the very first set launched in Japan, until present day.
- “Artist” showcases illustrations from several specific Pokémon TCG artists, each with a unique artistic style.
In addition, Japanese illustrator Takumi Wada designed three Pokémon TCG card illustrations that will be revealed for the first time in the Pokémon Trading Card Game: Online Illustration Exhibition—one each on August 23, September 7, and September 22, 2022.
“It’s a lot of pressure to draw Illustrations for the long-lasting Pokémon (TCG), but I am honoured to be given the opportunity to show the lives and the world of Pokémon,” said Mr. Wada, who notably designed artwork for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Switch games The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo Switch games The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. “It would make me happy if my illustrations could make you feel even a little bit closer to Pokémon.”
The Pokémon Trading Card Game: Online Illustration Exhibition will run from August 10, 2022, until October 23, 2022.
