Sony has announced that the latest firmware updates to both the PlayStation 3 and PSP have gone live, and notably, that Firmware Update v2.10 for PS3 adds support for both the DivX and VC-1 (WMV) video formats. The PS3 update also brings the PS3's Blu-ray drive up to Profile 1.1, which enables picture-in-picture playback and other enhancements for compatible Blu-ray discs. It also adds a voice changer feature, which enables users to change the tone of their voice during voice or video chat. Firmware update 3.80 for the PSP enables users to access a variety of internet radio stations over any Wi-Fi connection. Once the firmware update is installed, users in a Wi-Fi environment can add the player and then select a radio station to play on the portable system. Says DivX CEO Kevin Hell, "PS3 is a powerful and highly popular home entertainment system, and the addition of DivX support helps to optimize the digital media experience for consumers by allowing PS3 users to enjoy their library of high-quality DivX content directly on the television. As the first gaming system to offer official support for DivX video, PS3 represents an exciting new addition to the DivX ecosystem of products that enable consumers to enjoy their videos on any kind of device or platform.”
