3D simulation solution provider MultiGen-Paradigm has announced a partnership with Interactive Data Visualization, developers of foliage middleware solution SpeedTree, allowing MultiGen to resell SpeedTree as an integrated module within its Vega Prime visualization product line. The SpeedTree software delivers highly realistic digital trees and plants, with adjustable wind effects, user-configurable LOD transitions, and an included library of hundreds of tree, plant and marine models representing more than 170 core species. The tool has already found use in a number of highly regarded next-generation titles, such as THQ's Siants Row and Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, as well as in Webzen's upcoming MMOFPS Huxley. MultiGen's Vega Prime solution is designed to offer developers the ability to visualize simulation data in realistic means whether in air, on land, in space or in the sea. The SpeedTree for Vega Prime module loads the procedural definitions, converts the procedural definition into 3D geometry, computes LOD and leaf billboarding based on the camera position, handles wind effects, and performs numerous other tasks applicable to situations where high quality, three dimensional trees must be rendered in real-time with optimal performance. The module includes a tree library of 200 unique species of trees, plus the SpeedTree CAD modeling tool to create new, or edit existing, tree models and comes pre-configured to work with MultiGen’s sensor capabilities (IR and NVG) as well as round earth coordinate systems. “Incorporating more fidelity and realism into the environmental experience within our product offerings is an on-going requirement,” stated Sandeep Divekar, president of MultiGen. “Our customers have been requesting we provide a SpeedTree module, this is just another example of our product’s ability to integrate with leading products from partners like IDV to provide an overall solution.” IDV CEO Chris King added: “With SpeedTree’s signature realism and natural wind effects...Vega Prime will deliver more accurate motion cues, line of sight interference and general atmospherics, ensuring better analysis, better training and a more faithful representation of the real world.”
