Officials from middleware producer Geomerics have announced the appointment of ex-Take-Two Interactive executive Gary Lewis as the company’s new CEO.
Lewis’ move follows an eight year stint at Take-Two, most recently as global chief operating officer (COO) at the publishers’ New York headquarters. As a result of the appointment Geomerics’ current CEO, Dr Chris Doran, will move to the role of chief operating officer.
The company, based in Cambridge, England, has secured several intellectual properties in the field of geometric algebra, a new form of mathematics that greatly simplifies complex geometric calculations. Geometric algebra has its origins in theoretical cosmology, but has now been developed for application in computer graphics.
Geomerics’ solution to computing real-time radiosity claims to provide frame rates of up to 100Hz on common graphics hardware and allows for fully dynamic lighting including point spotlights, area lights, texture-based lighting, glowing objects and the projection of video onto geometry.
Doran commented on the appointment, saying, “Appointing a CEO has been a major priority for us and we’re delighted Gary has joined us. People of his caliber are few and far between. His vision, experience and clear-thinking will be invaluable to the success of Geomerics.”
Lewis added, “Geomerics is in its infancy but it’s evident that their skills and technology are immensely important in the development of titles for this generation of consoles. Here, I’ve seen the future and am very excited to be part of it.”
