The CMP Game Group, host of the industry-leading Game Developers Conference (GDC), and entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter have once again partnered for the second annual Hollywood and Games Summit, scheduled to take place at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel on June 26-27, 2007. The event, which aims to address the ever-increasing convergence between film and interactive entertainment, will offer a forum for Hollywood studio and video game executives to collaborate and exchange ideas. The summit will also allow leaders from both industries to interact and discuss best practices for strategically marketing original intellectual property. The event will include focused sessions, small-scale exhibits and a reception, enabling both sides to network. While specific presentations have yet to be announced for the upcoming event, topics expected to be covered include a discussion on how to build collaborative relationships between the game and film industries, how to create attractive cross platform properties, and how Hollywood talent is relevant in the interactive medium. The event will also feature conversations between independent film producers and game executives, as well as additional presentations on story telling, the simultaneous creation of films and games, using game engines in film creation, and marketing properties using alternative reality games. "Packaging deals and creative co-development between Hollywood and games talent are achieving a level of depth far beyond simple licensing," Jamil Moledina, GDC director, said. "By featuring leading voices from both entertainment industries sharing their successful experiences, mixed results, and collaborative breakthroughs, we have all the ingredients for attendees to create groundbreaking entertainment." Paula Parisi, vice president and executive editor for The Hollywood Reporter added: “The entertainment industry is at a turning point, where the technology and creativity of the gaming sector is changing the way Hollywood approaches storytelling and redefining the relationship with the audience. It's a very dynamic convergence, and very interesting to note the prime movers who are making it happen.” For additional information on the second annual Hollywood and Games Summit, including registration details and sponsorship opportunities, visit the official website.
