Officials from Capcom have announced that Devil May Cry 4 has already shipped over 2 million units worldwide since its release earlier in the month on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, making it the fastest selling iteration in the franchise so far. Since the release of the original title in 2001, the series has accrued total worldwide sales of over 9 million units and become one of Capcom’s lucrative franchises, alongside the likes of Resident Evil, Onimusha and Street Fighter. With generally positive reviews, both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Devil May Cry 4 entered the Japanese top ten upon release, with the PlayStation 3 version becoming the fastest selling PlayStation 3 title so far. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number one in the UK charts upon release – the first time any entry in the series had reached the top spot in the country. Both versions of the game are expected to chart highly in the next monthly U.S. charts from The NPD Group. A PC version of the title is also scheduled for worldwide release in the coming months.
