American McGee's Shanghai based Spicy Horse Games has announced that it has chosen Unreal Engine 3 for a multi-title development agreement that will span its forthcoming American McGee's Grimm and other yet unannounced titles. McGee's American-owned and Shanghai-headquartered studio specializes in what it calls "boutique games for the PC and next-gen console markets," and will first be bringing Grimm to GameTap in 2008. GameTap says Grimm will be a 24 episode fractured fairy-tale action-adventure game featuring a "compelling collection of vividly drawn characters inhabiting a world built around twisted takes on the best-known tales in Western fiction." Promising a "sandbox world" in which players will take on missions in episodic fashion starting in 2008, GameTap says the title will feature traditional adventure game exploration and questing, and a fighting mechanic that it says is based on the notion that "words are weapons." Said McGee of the engine choice, “Unreal Engine 3 has given our team the tools they need to express their creativity in a rapid and predictable way. Working with the great people at Epic Games China allows us capture rapidly expanding business and creative opportunities in Chinese and global gaming.”
