Virtuos Opens Chengdu Office

Game development outsourcing company Virtuos has announced it has opened a new development center in Chengdu, Western China, signing an agreement with the Chengdu government to support the game industry in the region as Virtuos aims to grow its Chengdu st

Game development outsourcing company Virtuos has announced it has opened a new development center in Chengdu, Western China. During the official inauguration ceremony on January 14th, 2008, Liu Bing, Chengdu deputy governor and member of the standing committee and Virtuos CEO Gilles Langourieux signed an agreement between the company and the Chengdu government, aimed at facilitating Virtuos’ installation in Chengdu. Under the agreement, Virtuos says it is making long term commitments to the development of the game industry in the Chengdu. The new studio is already operational, and Virtuos says it has begun servicing international clients in the 3D art and development areas. The company says its goal is to expand Virtuos' pool of resources in order to address growing demand from clients. The company established its Shanghai office in 2004, and many of the staff who trained at Virtuos originated in Chengdu, and are now returning there to work in the new facility. Virtuos adds that it has spent time over the last two years networking with Chengdu universities to establish a talent network ahead of the new studio opening. Langourieux says that Virtuos aims to grow the new center to 100 staff members in 2008, and aims to increase staff to over 300 in the next three years. Said Bing, "The opening of a new game outsourcing center is another example of the role Chengdu is already playing in the Chinese high-tech services industry. In recent months we have developed strong ties with the international team leading Virtuos and we look forward to their success."
