Virtools has released version 2.5 of its Virtools Dev 3D development environment and announced the forthcoming release of its AI Pack, an AI add-on pack for the suite. The new version adds new top-level functionality, improves documentation, and realizes numerous optimizations, according to the company. The tool leverages its new Virtools Scripting Language (VSL), designed to complement the existing Virtools development interfaces, the GUI-based Schematic Editor, and the Virtools SDK, by providing a direct interface to the SDK within Dev. VSL also features a color coding, context-sensitive completion, and function arguments display, plus a full debugging mode with breakpoint support, watchable variables with value editing, and step into/out support. Other enhancements to Dev include the Variable Manager, multiple levels of undo, and enhanced replacement functions. The Virtools AI Pack claims to offer users a versatile architecture to implement complex AI behavior effectively within Dev. The tool consists of an add-on library of building blocks designed to enable Dev users to manipulate AI behavior through Dev’s graphical interface.
