Today Virtools released version 2.1 of Virtools Dev, the interactive 3D development solution. Virtools Dev 2.1 upgrades the rasterizer to DirectX 8.1 (previous versions were only DirectX 7-compatible). Among the benefits of the new rasterizer, Virtools Dev now supports cubic environment mapping (both in DirectX and OpenGL), as well as the capability to create and render VertexBuffers under DirectX. Also new in this release are more than 20 new behavior building blocks (BBBs). These include animation recorders (to be used in a scripted or non-interactive sequence), texture filters, lens flare effects, lightmaps, volumetric fog and stencil shadows. Finally, the interface has also received a facelift. Most interesting is the automatic creation of portals, as well as support for conditional breakpoints in the scripts. Registered users of Virtools Dev 2.0 can upgrade to the new version by downloading it from the company's website.
