Paris based Dassault Systèmes has announced a newly "revamped" version of its Virtools framework for Sony's PSP, with both a prototyping solution for artists and designers, and a full production solution for programmers and optimization. Virtools Dev uses a graphical scripting system and a library of over 450 ready-to-use behavior building blocks that can be directly attributed to objects, characters, camera, game logic and any other prototype components. It also brings together a GUI with graphical and text scripting and debug tools, APIs such as the Dev behavior and render engines, as well as asset integration plug-ins. Dassault says Virtools 4 has been "fully optimized to leverage the power of PSP through a written-from-scratch PSP System Virtools player and a new visual interface." It also notes that most of its PC Building Blocks are ported to PSP system, and includes custom Building Blocks are available to directly communicate with PSP system across its prototyping and full production solutions. Said Virtools VP Virgile Delporte, "With Virtools Solutions for PSP at the core of Virtools’ authoring platform, developers are able to focus on game play and optimization. Game developers can therefore validate the game design decisions much faster and enhance their development process for developing games with great graphics and cutting-edge interactivity."
