UK Sales Chart, Week Ending October 29th

Despite the busy time of year, the UK sales charts have remained surprisingly static this week, with only one change in position in the top five. This did nothing to change the trio of soccer titles at the top of the chart, though, with Football Manager 2006 and FIFA 06 simply swapping places. The highest new entry was Star Wars: Battlefront II, with a relatively modest debut at number six. The game does share cross-promotional marketing with the DVD release of Star Wars: Episode III, but the movie was not released until October 31st in the UK, so it is possible the game will earn a significant boost next week. The only other new entry in the top ten is Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland at number nine, which appears to be suffering a little from the law of diminishing returns as the franchise marks its seventh consecutive iteration. The sudden rise of SingStar Popworld at number ten is due to new retailer promotions, with fellow karaoke title SingStar ‘80s likely to follow its success when it is released on November 4th. Other new entries outside the top ten include Buzz! The Music Quiz at number twenty-two – another Sony Computer Entertainment Europe release aimed squarely away at the mass market. The rather more hardcore space combat simulator X3: Reunion entered the charts at number twenty-six, while the release of the Xbox version of Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil allowed the expansion to re-enter the charts at number thirty-five, just ahead of massively multiplayer online role-playing game City of Villains at thirty-nine.
