While the industry’s attention was fixed on E3, the UK charts show that most consumers have instead been preoccupied with the launch of the final Star Wars movie, the video game version of which easily held on to the number one spot in the UK sales charts. Regardless of this, Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport has performed extremely well, becoming the biggest Xbox release of the year so far in the UK. Meanwhile, the sudden spike in soccer management title Championship Manger 5’s sales is due to the release of the console versions of the game. The other new entry in the charts this week is Singstar Popworld, which has entered at a much higher position than previous iterations of the karaoke series. Although the games have proven to be long terms sellers, they have normally only occupied the lower reaches of the chart, which could suggest that Sony are genuinely starting to reach a new and significantly sized audience with non-game titles. The only other new entries in the top forty this week was SRS: Street Racing Syndicate at number twenty-three, and a re-entry for Star Wars: Battlefront at number forty – proving that the Force really is with LucasArts at the moment.
