With the FIFA World Cup still not due to begin for another three weeks, Electronic Arts’ official tie-in seems likely to remain at the number one spot in the UK video game sales chart until then, and likely for sometime after. It is just one of four soccer titles in the top ten this week, with Sega’s Football Manager 2006 at number sixteen. The highest new entry in the top forty is Pokémon Link! (aka Pokémon Trozei!) at number eighteen, which has continued the renaissance in performance for Nintendo DS titles in the UK since the release of Animal Crossing: Wild World. The only other new entry is Capcom’s Monster Hunter Freedom at number twenty. The game has performed much better than the home console iterations of the series in the UK, although it seems unlikely to match the Japanese success of becoming the best selling title on the PSP. Movement in the rest of the chart has been limited to budget re-releases and other shop discounted games, with the Platinum version of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 being the most obvious success at number four, as well as The Matrix: The Path of Neo at number fourteen and Project Gotham Racing 3 at number thirty-six.
