Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has proved an instant hit in the UK sales charts, topping the combined format charts and seeing the Xbox 360 version at number one in the individual format charts. The Xbox 360 version accounted for 63 percent of all sales of the title, representing the eleventh biggest weekly sell-through ever in the UK – the second highest ever, after Halo 3, for the Xbox 360 format. The PlayStation 3 version enters at number two with 24 percent of sales, with the PC version at number eight with 13 percent of sales. The other major multiformat release of the week is THQ’s WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw 2008, but in this case, the biggest seller is the PlayStation 2 version, coming in third with 44 percent of all sales of the title. The Xbox 360 version debuts at number 10 with 24 percent of sales, and the PlayStation 3 version comes in at number 13 with 18 percent of sales. The Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP versions did not register in the top 40. With the release of the PlayStation 3 and PSP versions, overall sales for The Simpsons Game rose 113 percent. However, although the Xbox 360 version remains at number three in the multiformat charts, neither of the two new versions chart in the top 40. Combined Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 sales were down 55 percent on the previous week. Though no figures have been specified, Chart-Track indicates that this week saw a “massive surge” in Nintendo DS hardware sales, apparently from the increase in sales for Brain Training and More Brain Training at 55 percent and 36 percent, respectively. New entries outside of the top ten include High School Musical: Sing It! on PlayStation 2 at number 11. Never as significant a franchise in the UK as in North America, PlayStation 3 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction enters at number 21. The increase in Nintendo DS hardware sales can be further felt with Big Brain Academy re-entering at number 30 and Nintendogs: Lab & Friends re-appearing at number 38.
