Third-party publisher Ubisoft has taken camera technology into its own hands, giving details on Wednesday of a body-tracking camera for use with the upcoming Wii exer-game, Your Shape. Ubisoft said that the camera uses "proprietary body tracking technology," and will be packaged with Your Shape. The bundle is slated for release this holiday worldwide for a price to be announced. The French publisher said in a statement, "...The game will scan your body and then project the image onto the TV, creating a personalized and interactive workout. Based on your specific body shape analysis, fitness level and personal goals, Your Shape is able to recommend the workout program that is best suited for you." The game, which first made its appearance at E3 last week, will utilize a virtual coach to help motivate the user, and Ubisoft claims Your Shape will have "more exercises than any other fitness game." Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot said in a statement, "The development of the new camera for Wii and our Body Tracking technology means that Your Shape will offer an interactive experience that is a technological breakthrough in gaming, as well as in the fitness category." The game follows Nintendo's own exercise hit, Wii Fit, which selling 600,000 units in its first two weeks. While the camera may be an exciting prospect for Wii owners -- there is no other camera solution available for Wii -- it's unclear if Ubisoft would create other games that would utilize the peripheral. Asked if Ubisoft would use the camera for other titles, a rep told Gamasutra simply, "We have not announced any plans for other camera-enabled Wii games."
