The Kaydara FBX file format is gaining even more support, with a recent announcement from online 3D content vendor Turbo Squid. Turbo Squid will support content sale and exchange in FBX format, which is designed to provide an authoring hub between major 3D packages. FBX provides a centralized working file format for vendors wishing to acquire, author, and retarget 3D data and animation. "Turbo Squid provides a unique service for content interchange, which will be simplified by Kaydara's FBX format," said Dan Kraus, director of business development (entertainment) for Kaydara, "Turbo Squid's support for FBX will open up new doors for enabling content interchange between users, and help build the authoring pipeline for faster, more interactive 3D content development." The FBX format supports data structures from Alias Maya, NewTek Lightwave, Discreet 3D Studio Max, and Softimage. When using FBX files within Filmbox, users gain additional character-animation capabilities, such as character mapping. FBX also provides FiLMBOX users with the ability to re-purpose content for film, TV, games and the Web.
