A new report from Australian IT has investigated serious games in general, with specific focus on Australian companies such as Torus Digital Concepts that are contributing to the market. The report indicated Torus Digital Concepts, which has also created games for the entertainment market such as Curious George (GBA) and Classified: The Sentinel Crisis (PS2, Xbox) under its Torus Games brand, has created serious games centered on topics such as medicine and policing. In addition. the report noted that the developer is also building a scenario village for the Victorian Police Department at Glen Waverley. "It's an important facility, a training aid for the police 18-hours-a-day, 365 days a year," said Torus' chief executive Bill Macintosh. "Serious games are middle ground between simulations and games,” added Serious Games Initiative's Ben Sawyer, who was cited in the report as noting that he believes that in 10 years most game developers will be investing in serious games development. “They are growing at six times the rate of other games, and the potential market is enormous."
