SimCity Societies developer Tilted Mill has announced Hinterland, a new PC title describes as a 'fantasy strategy sim RPG' with tactical party-based combat, intended to be released in summer 2008. The developer says the game will see players building up and leading a village, "populated by simple townsfolk struggling to survive and prosper in the wild back country of a medieval fantasy world." Players will lead parties of adventurers to quest, conquer foes, collect treasure, magic items and knowledge, all of which will be used to fuel the village, leading to manufacturing capabilities as it grows stronger. Company founder Chris Beatrice also says the game will let players experience "tactical party-based combat and role-playing, where every split-second decision matters, as well as the strategic planning, building and ‘life simulation’ gameplay our team is known for," and says the game is "fast-paced and highly replayable without sacrificing the complex and interesting mechanics of classic RPG and strategy games." The developer recently released an updated version of its reacquired title Children of the Nile to Steam, a property originally published by Myelin Media and Sega. No specific publisher or download platform has yet been announced for Hinterland. Said Beatrice, “Hinterland is about ordinary people struggling to overcome their hostile and mysterious environment and building a better life for themselves in a world of fantasy and folklore. There are no mighty armies clashing here, just small parties of three or four adventurers, with you at their head, where acquiring your first real sword is a big deal!"
