Sony Computer Entertainment named Sweden-based Terraplay Systems a Sony Approved Middleware Vendor, so developers can now use Terraplay’s network engine and development tools for developing PS2 games that are played over fixed and wireless networks. Terraplay develops networking infrastructure software for online multiplayer games in both fixed and mobile networks. The Terraplay System is platform independent, letting game developers produce the same online game for the PlayStation 2 and PC platforms with fewer costs. The system is designed to alleviate problems that arise when players with different hook-up speeds (modem, broadband, etc.) want to play against each other. It also offers hook-ups via mobile networks, making games independent of which network is used for online connection.
