Publisher Taito are planning a version of PSP puzzle title Exit for Xbox Live Arcade, with new stages being created specifically for the new home console version according the latest issue of Japanese consumer magazine Famitsu. As translated by consumer website IGN, the Famitsu news story indicates that the game will retain the 2D perspective and cel-shaded art style of the original PSP game. Although no Western release or pricing has yet been confirmed, the game will be priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10) in Japan when it is released later this summer. The original game was a full-price PSP release in December 2005 in Japan and early 2006 in the West. It features coffee addicted “escapologist” Mr. ESC, who is tasked with rescuing people trapped in buildings during various natural disasters. The game was praised for its distinctive art style and original mix of platform action and puzzle solving. However, it did not prove a significant sales success, with the subsequent PSP based sequel, which was only released in Europe and Japan, making even less of an impact at retail. Taito will no doubt be hoping that the game will prove more successful on Xbox Live Arcade, where it is certainly likely to enjoy a higher visibility and may encourage other publishers to re-release niche titles on the service.
