Sony marketing and PlayStation Network senior vice president Peter Dille spoke on the recent and upcoming updates to the PlayStation Store, and confirmed that the previously-unveiled PlayStation Cards are being sold at retail. Dille's comments were part of a PlayStation Blog post where he expressed excitement about what he claims "a lot of press and analysts" are calling "the year of PlayStation 3." "We are rolling out the PlayStation Cards to retailers nationwide as we speak," wrote Dille. The cards, whose existence was first known when samples were sent to members of the gaming press last December, will be sold in $20 and $50 denominations and can be used to purchase all PlayStation Store content. Dille made mention of the newly-redesigned PlayStation Store, admitting that the service's original incarnation "wasn't one that lived up to our brand." Coming this year, PlayStation Network will see in-game Xross Media Bar access, social environment PlayStation Home, and various community features. The exec also brought up the PlayStation Store's long-standing promise of downloadable film and television content. Refusing to elaborate, he said only, "The goal of the PLAYSTATION Network service will be to break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want," and indicated more information is expected "very soon." Of course, Dille counted off a litany of upcoming big-name PlayStation 3 exclusives, including Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, and Resistance 2. Curiously (or perhaps meaninglessly), he did not mention one of the highest-profile first-party titles of all, Killzone 2.
