Developer David Jaffe and Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) have been named in a new lawsuit claiming that the concepts behind God of War were taken from a screenplay and other materials submitted to Sony in 2002. According to information researched by website GamePolitics, the alleged copyright infringement was filed in February at the U.S. District Court in California. Plaintiffs Jonathan Bissoon-Dath and Barrette-Herzog claim that a number of works of fiction, including a screenplay and illustrative map, were sent to Sony Pictures and agents working with SCEA shortly before work began on God of War. The Adventures of Owen: Owen's Olympic Adventure and the associate map are alleged to have several similarities in terms of plot, character relationships, themes, settings, mood, pace and dialogue with SCEA’s critically acclaimed God of War - which is itself based on popular mythology. Responses already filed by SCEA describe the accusations as “inaccurate, incomplete, abstracted and/or misleading." Although the case is proceeding, SCEA and Jaffe are already seeking legal costs for their defense.
