Sony Introduces WiFi PSP Demos At TGS

According to Sony's official Japanese website, the company’s booth at this year’s Tokyo Game Show will include special game sharing areas, allowing visitors to download PSP demos of forthcoming games, transmitted wirelessly. The special booth, named the PlayStation Spot, will contain a number of PSPs which will be able to transmit demos to multiple consoles simultaneously. Considering Sony’s previously stated aversion to executables that do not run from a UMD disc, the demonstration versions will simply be retained in RAM until the PSP is turned off, in a similar style to Nintendo's wireless-transmittable demo kiosk, which was showcased at this year's E3 Expo and has transmitted demonstration versions in a Japanese retail setting. The five PSP demos available at the Tokyo Game Show are from a variety of companies, including Metal Gear Ac!d 2 (Konami), Byte Hell 2000 (Sony), Portable Resort (Namco), Rengoku 2 (Hudson) and Megaman-related title Rockman Rockman (Capcom). Various online sites are reporting that Sony Japan intends to introduce the demo service to retail stores in Japan, in a manner similar to that already employed by Nintendo. There is no indication, though, as to when either service will be made available in the West.
