Digital media content delivery network Limelight Networks has announced that its technology has been adopted by Sony Computer Entertainment to deliver system software updates ranging in size up to 150 MB directly to PlayStation 3 and PSP users. Limelight also recently announced a partnership with Microsoft to "help improve the reliability" of Microsoft's online services, such as Xbox Live, and to provide global media streaming and content delivery services to Microsoft, building on an agreement the two signed last year to designate Limelight as Xbox Live's content delivery network. Limelight is also the content delivery network for some 850 other media companies, including Amazon Unbox, Belo Interactive, Brightcove, DreamWorks, Facebook, FOXNews.com, IFILM, ITV Play, Metacafe, MSNBC.com, MySpace, NC Interactive and Valve Software. "SCE is committed to providing the most innovative 3D graphics and interactive capabilities for their customers and it's our job to ensure they get them quickly and reliably. We're proud that SCE has trusted Limelight Networks to serve as their global delivery network," said David Hatfield, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, Limelight Networks. "Limelight's CDN is designed from the ground up to rapidly distribute rich media files, direct to the consumer, ensuring that SCE customers always have the best experience available with their PS3s and PSPs."
