The newest version of Solid State Network's CURRENT 3.0 software, which provides digital distribution, installation, and patching services for games, will be free to developers. Solid State is currently taking requests for the suite through its official site, and says commercial use is covered under the free offer. A specific date for the impending release was not given. In a statement, company founder and CEO Rick Buonincontri said developers will be able to take advantage of the software to "enhance the game acquisition experience" without "impacting their existing budgets." "Developers will have the opportunity to see our solution in action at no cost," the CEO continued. "Not only can they save development time and money by using a readily available and supported solution, but they can easily extend and customize the software to create new revenue-generating opportunities." Amongst the existing users of Solid State's offerings are developers and publishers Funcom, Riot Games, Wizards of the Coast, Vogster Entertainment, and Abandon Interactive.
