SoftImage rolled out its SoftImage XSI v2.0 software at Siggraph 2001, the latest version of its nonlinear animation (NLA) system. The SoftImage XSI v2.0 system has a new fully integrated compositor, 3D text generation, real-time shaders and integrated hair and fur simulators, and support for Linux. Marking this release, it also has increased performance, expanded interoperability and improved stability, building upon the product's features of non-destructive animation mixing, interactive rendering and an Internet enabled workflow. The SoftImage XSI v2.0 system is scheduled for release in October 2001. In anticipation of better upgrade pricing, SoftImage is offering the current release of Soft Image XSI, version 1.5, at promotional pricing of $6,495 for SoftImage XSI Essentials and $9,495 for Soft Image XSI Advanced.
