SGI new Fuel Workstation is aimed at broadening the market for high performance workstations. Based on a single processor design, the Fuel’s starting $11,495 price tag comes in more than 30 percent lower than the previous entry-level price for an SGI 64-bit workstation. Silicon Graphics Fuel features a Single 500MHz R14000A MIPS processor with 2MB L2 cache or 600 MHz with 4MB L2 cache, 200 MHz front side bus, VPro V10 or V12 graphics with up to 128 MB configurable graphics memory, 104MB texture memory and 48-bit RGBA with 16-bit Z buffer capability and the fifth-generation 64-bit IRIX operating system. Silicon Graphic Fuel workstation will be available in the first quarter of the year, starting at $11,495 for a base configuration.
