Alliance NumériQC, the business network for Quebec’s new media and interactive digital content industry, has announced that the Montreal International Game Summit (MIGS) will be hosting the first annual Serious Games Canada Symposium on November 27 and 28, 2007, at the Palais des Congrès. This year, the symposium at MIGS is convening more than twenty speakers, mostly from Canada, to give presentations on the subject of serious games. Alongside the presentations, a workshop will be held to create a national group, Serious Games of Canada, for the promotion of serious game research and development in Canada. Presenters include Zapdramatic president Michael Gibson, Microsoft Research's John Nordlinger, Richard Levy from the University of Calgary's Environmental Design department, and Concurrent Technologies' Kraig Mentor, among the other presenters slated for the event. The speakers will share expertise on subjects from ethics and negotiation games and Project Moonwalk, an educational simulation of the Apollo Moon Missions, to interactive math activities and game ethology, a methodology for design analysis based on game behavior. Said Alliance numériQC CEO Solange Blanchard, "Alliance NumériQC is delighted to include this new component in the Summit calendar, making the 2007 edition all the more valuable and interesting for participants. We hope that this first annual edition of the Serious Games Canada Symposium will become an international reference, inspiring experts, developers and students in the field to contribute to this rapidly expanding sector.” Interested parties can find further information at the event website.
