Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector announced that it will enhance its DragonBall MX1 and Super VZ microprocessors with a new 3D game API to be developed by Sega.
Sega will develop this API for next-generation Palm-powered devices, and it will be integrated into future versions of Metrowerks' CodeWarrior tools for the Palm OS. Sega will also license the API directly to developers. Under the terms of the alliance, Motorola plans to optimize the chip's hardware capabilities to accelerate games using the API on the DragonBall. "We believe this alliance could... [give] developers unprecedented power to easily deliver the gaming content today's handheld consumers demand," said Pete Shinyeda, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Wireless and Broadband Systems Group. No timeline was given for the rollout of the new API, nor was information presented about the API's licensing terms.
