CMP Technology, the leading marketing solutions provider to the global technology industry, has appointed videogame industry veteran Kathy Schoback to the position of Group Director of the CMP Game Group. The Game Group is the producing organization of the world’s largest game industry-only event, the Game Developers Conference, as well as the Austin Game Conference and the industry-leading media Game Developer Magazine and Gamasutra.com, among other notable event and media products. Schoback will be responsible for directing and coordinating all activities of the Group to maximize profitability and growth, and will help set and implement the Group’s overall global strategy. Kathy Schoback’s game industry experience spans nearly 15 years, with the majority of her career spent at SEGA of America. She most recently served as VP of Content Acquisition for AGEIA Technologies, where she and her team licensed the PhysX SDK to over 140 developers and publishers. As Director of Product Operations at Eidos, Schoback created and managed processes for game release scheduling and platform-holder certification. In her 9 years at SEGA, she occupied a variety of relationship management and business development positions, in which she routinely exceeded sales and revenue targets. Schoback serves on the Game Developers Conference advisory board, was a longtime board member and former Chair of the International Game Developers Association, and participates in the steering committee of Women in Games International. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. “Kathy Schoback is far and away the best possible person to lead the CMP Game Group,” said Philip Chapnick, senior vice president, Applied Technologies Group, CMP Technology. “Her deep game industry expertise managing relationships with developers and publishers, developing new business opportunities and overseeing complex scheduling across a multitude of projects, not to mention her intimate knowledge of the Game Developers Conference, made our choice an easy one.” As the leading games industry media group, the CMP Game Group is dedicated to editorial integrity, industry growth, facilitating strategic partnerships, networking, and education. As Group Director, Schoback will oversee the financial management of the Game Group, work with business development to create new products and manage their execution and integration into the existing business. Schoback will also lead the Group’s relationship-building efforts, interacting with major game industry companies.
