Today's news wrap-up includes sales figures for Square-Enix's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie, the announcement of two upcoming Nintendo panels at Game Developers Conference, and mobile leader Jamdat's latest content partnership, as well as today's GameSetWatch links and Gamasutra job postings. - Square Enix announced that over 1 million copies of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, its CG movie sequel to the original PlayStation game, have been sold in Japan since the movie's release on September 14th. The film came out simultaneously on DVD and UMD, in which formats it will also be released in North America on March 28th, after a couple of delays. 700,000 of the units were moved in the first three weeks of Advent Children's release, a feat Square Enix hopes to replicate in North America and Europe. - Nintendo will host two panels at the upcoming Game Developers Conference [a product of the CMP Game Group, like Gamasutra.com] related to its Nintendo DS handheld. The first, a presentation by Animal Crossing director Katsuya Eguchi, is titled "Is That a Franchise in Your Pocket? An Animal Crossing: Wild World Case Study." Eguchi will discuss the game's transition from console to handheld, as well as adding the wireless Internet elements. Second is Takao Ohara, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection project leader, who will discuss "The Zen of Wi-Fi: A Postmortem of the Wireless Features of Nintendo DS." Ohara will address the strengths and weaknesses of Wi-Fi on the DS so far, and discuss potential applications for the service on Nintendo's Revolution console. - Jamdat Mobile, which was recently purchased by Electronic Arts, has signed with Telephia to use the company's proprietary audience metrics. "Telephia’s Audience Metrics for mobile content is the industry standard by which publishers like JAMDAT benchmark themselves and their competitors," said Telephia president Sid Gorham. "Our mission is to continue to deliver market intelligence of the highest quality to content providers, as well as carriers and device manufacturers, to help them make informed and precise business decisions." - The latest posts on Gamasutra's new sister weblog GameSetWatch include the dark side of Animal Crossing, a more-than-in-depth look at Nintendo puzzler Polarium, and a love sonnet to GameTap. - Also updated today: the latest Gamasutra job postings, including new positions from Blizzard Entertainment, Nihilistic Software, Datascope Recruitment, AGEIA Technologies, and Apple Computer, as well as product news regarding PathEngine's latest AI update.
