3D data translation technology and solutions provider, Okino Computer Graphics and real-time interactive virtual reality authoring solutions provider, Act-3D, jointly announced today that the two have partnered up in a deal that will see Okino's PolyTrans 3D conversion technology integrated into Act-3D’s 'virtual reality' 3D engine product, Quest3D. Quest3D, created by Leiden, Holland-based Act-3D, is a run-time graphics engine used in business areas like architecture, landscape visualization, business presentation, virtual-reality training, and product visualization, but also by artists and game developers. Available as part of version 2.5 of Quest3D, the integration of PolyTrans support allows users to make use of 3D assets, models, animations and scene data spanning various software packages, including: 3DS MAX, AutoCAD, Lightwave, Maya, Softimage, trueSpace, Openflight, Autodesk Inventor, Pro/Engineer, Solid Edge, SolidWorks and others. The inclusion into Quest3D 2.5 also has Okino’s mesh deformation skinning and animation pipelines supported. Robert Lansdale, president and CEO of Okino Computer Graphics, Inc., commented: "This is a clear winning solution by combining our two mutually complementary and technically excellent technologies into one power house of a 3D realtime authoring system." Okino's PolyTrans Software, which is used for 3D model, NURBS, CAD, animation, skinning translation and optimization, was most notably used for 3D data conversion and optimization of datasets for the NASA Mars Exploration Rover space program.
