SCEA officials are claiming that sales of the PlayStation 2 console have more than doubled in North America since the price of the console was cut from $179 to $149 last month. Retail stores have seen week-over-week sales increase by 216%. Sales for the three full weeks since the price drop were up 141% on the three weeks prior to the announcement and up 26% compared to the same three-week period in 2003. Similar sales increases were experienced by the GameCube and Xbox in the wake of their price drops, ith Sony’s decrease likely to return market share percentages to their pre-Christmas 2003 positions.
