Wireless developer Qualcomm Incorporated announced its BREW Signature Solution for Gaming, a comprehensive gaming solution that packages together the necessary components to enable wireless service providers to bring gaming to mobile handsets. The announcement came during Qualcomm's BREW 2006 Conference, being held May 31-June 2 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. A key component of the solution is uiOne, which enables a better on-device discovery, publisher and franchise-specific micro stores, as well as support for game-based themes throughout the handset. In addition to uiOne, the BREW Signature Solution for Gaming includes capabilities for purchase via websites and retail cards, in-game micro transactions and a portfolio of native BREW game titles. The BREW Signature Solution for Gaming also supports multiplayer and community-based services. Qualcomm also provides tools to address the needs of development using 3D, high-speed 3G networks, advanced chipsets, cross-platform design, and multiplayer gaming communities. One such tool just introduced by Qualcomm is the QX Engine software developer's kit (SDK), which is designed to provide developers with tools to take advantage of all the OpenGL ES hardware-accelerated 3D graphics features available on Qualcomm's MSM chipsets. The QX Engine SDK provides the main tool and application program interface for developers to rapidly prototype high-performance 3D models and animation for gaming applications. The QX Engine enables artists using standard 3D modeling packages to create the content required to put together a 3D game. Via the QX Engine SDK, the OpenGL ES hardware-accelerated 3D graphics features of the Company's MSM chipsets are accessible for BREW and other operating environments.
