Officials from Rockstar have confirmed that an illegally obtained version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been posted to various online sites, ahead of its U.S. release on Tuesday 25th November. San Andreas joins a long list of other major titles, including Half-Life 2, Doom 3 and Halo 2, which have had pirated versions leaked to the Internet before their intended release date, albeit all at differing stages of development. Although no official confirmation has been given, a boxed copy of the game is believed to have been extracted while being prepared for distribution to retail stores in the U.S. - this illegal distribution did not involve a pressing plant or internal leak of any kind, unlike some of the aforementioned games. Although, as mentioned, San Andreas is due for release next week, Rockstar are still treating the theft as serious and are urging those with information on the thieves or any site hosting the images or software to contact them at [email protected].
