Spiral Graphics announced Organica, a node-based tiling texture generator slated for release this summer. According to the company, Organica will automate the generation of seamless textures. Users of Organica build textures by combining various "nodes." Making these combinations in Organica involves dragging nodes from a library into their desired positions, which the company describes as similar to playing with LEGO. Individual nodes contribute an array of visual effects, such as cracks, dents, flagstones, moss, corrosion, marble, wood, highlights, and shadows. Textures will automatically tile, with no additional work required of the user, making Organica of interest to games artists and other who require hundreds of tiling textures in a single project. A gallery of textures made with a preliminary version of Organica is available at http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/gallery.htm. Pricing information was not announced.
