Neomagic Corporation has announced Mimagic 6, its first application processor that supports 3D rendering. The Mimagic 6 is ARM-based, incorporating a 200MHz ARM926EJ processor. By focusing on 3D and multimedia optimization, while running the chip at a relatively low clock speed, the company claims to have achieved significant performance while still being miserly with power consumption, "improv[ing] 3D performance-power efficiency by as much as two orders of magnitude over typical mobile phone baseband processors or competitive Applications Processors." The company is demonstrating the chip at CES and is now sampling, but has not announced when quantity orders will be available.
