Mark Ollila has been appointed Director of Technology & Strategy for the games and multimedia branch of Nokia, where he will help drive the company's next generation gaming strategy. Ollila will be responsible for technology strategy and business development, industry relations and industry marketing, partnerships and Nokia internal collaboration and technology roadmapping within the multimedia wing. Previously, Ollila co-founded Telcogames in 2003 and today is a non-executive director with the company. He also serves on the Advisory Board of CMP's GDC Mobile, focusing on mobile graphics and multiplayer solutions, and is a jury member for the International Mobile Game Awards. Ollila commented, "Joining Nokia during the final strategic developments of Nokia's next generation mobile games platform launch is a unique challenge - where new social and connected technology benchmarks and consumer experiences are being delivered for the first time to the mobile entertainment market." He continued, "It's these kinds of progressive developments that form new cultures and greater opportunities for our industry; which I am delighted to be involved in." Nokia's next-generation N-Gage platform, slated to launch in 2007, is built around the entire line-up of Nokia NSeries computers and S60 phones, rather than an individual device, as with the company's previous N-Gage initiative.
