Namco Networks today announced a series of Pac-Man and Galaga mobile gaming tournaments that will take place at the consumer technology and entertainment show, DigitalLife in New York, October 12–15. The tournament is cosponsored by Motorola and will consist of a daily qualifying round, where contestants compete exclusively on the MOTOSLVR phone to see who can earn the highest score. There will be one qualifying round for each game beginning at noon and ending at 5 p.m. Earning one of the day’s five highest scores will qualify contestants for the daily final challenge. “We are proud to join Namco Networks in sponsoring this series of mobile gaming tournaments at DigitalLife next week,” said Christy Wyatt, vice president of ecosystem and market development at Motorola. “We see a great opportunity to increase consumer awareness of mobile gaming while providing the necessary tools and resources game developers need to advance the mobile gaming industry forward.” Daily tournaments will give players the opportunity to compete for prizes such as Pac-Man toys, Galaga t-shirts and Motorola handsets. “Namco is hosting this unique mobile gaming event at DigitalLife to grow consumer visibility for wireless gaming,” said Scott Rubin, vice president of sales and marketing for Namco Networks. “Working with Motorola provides a great opportunity for Pac-Man and Galaga fans to play the mobile versions of their arcade favorites on a great Motorola handset.” Reminiscent of the arcade-era, the daily final challenge contestants will compete in a “sudden death” playoff on a classic Pac-Mac or Galaga arcade machine. With just one life, challengers must score as many points as possible to determine the daily winner.
