Mobile game developer and publisher Glu Mobile has announced the opening of a Latin American HQ in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The office is headed up by longtime industry presence Bill Woods, formally of THQ Wireless. Although Glu has been selling games in Latin America since 2003, it has focused more attention on the region in recent quarters, As a result, Glu’s revenue in Latin America nearly doubled in Q3 2006 over the same quarter in 2005. The opening of the Latin American HQ is the latest step in Glu's steady globalization. Earlier in 2006 the company opening a Hong Kong office, and the company's acquisition of UK game publisher UK mobile publisher, iFone provided additional European infrastructure. “We feel strongly that our success as a global publisher depends on establishing a local presence to truly understand the needs of the region,” said Greg Ballard, president and CEO, Glu Mobile. He added, “We have seen great enthusiasm and reception for our games in Latin America, and as one of the first publishers to have success in the region we believe that opening regional headquarters will allow us to expand our leadership position in this very important market.”
