A team composed of individuals from both mobile game publisher Gameloft and major publisher Activision has announced the launch of a new mobile game development studio named Massively Mobile. According to a note released by the newly formed company, the studio has developed a proprietary engine focused on both single and multiplayer game development, while leveraging off of the strengths of the mobile platform to offer players “new experiences not possible on other gaming platforms.” Collectively, Massively Mobile’s cross-platform team spans 20 years of combined industry experience, covering wireless to console platforms. Massively Mobile’s core development team has worked on a number of previously released titles, such as Asphalt 3D and Midnight Hold ‘Em Poker for mobile phones, True Crime: Streets of L.A. for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and Teen Titans: Battle Blitz for the PC. “For too long, the mobile platform has been treated as the red-headed stepchild of 'real' gaming,” commented founding member and creative director Demetri Detsaridis in a statement. “What we’re excited about doing with Massively Mobile is breaking out of this pattern and starting to utilize the full potential of these ubiquitous networked devices.” He added: “We consider mobile gaming not just an avenue to release miniature versions of console or PC games, but a viable part of a larger gaming ecosystem... one with its own tremendous strengths that differ from those of other platforms, but that can be used to complement them in some amazing ways.”
