The inaugural inductees into the Walk of Game installation at San Francisco’s Sony Metreon entertainment complex have been announced, with two developers and four video game characters winning permanent tributes at what is hoped to become the gaming equivalent of the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. Shigeru Miyamoto and Nolan Bushnell were the first two recipients of the 'Lifetime Achievement' star, beating out competition from The Sims creator Will Wright and Sega’s Yu Suzuki. In addition to this, the four top voted games and/or characters also to be honored were Halo/Master Chief, Mario, Link/The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog. Over 200,000 votes were received for this year's competition, held during the month of October, through both paper ballots and online votes at www.walkofgame.com. All the winners will be officially inducted into the Walk of Game early next year, with a large steel star being placed on the floor of the Metreon. New submissions will then be made each year, with the public being invited to vote for their favorites.
