MAXON Computer yesterday announced the availibility of BodyPaint 3D Release 2, a 3D texture painting application that works with a variety of 3D modelers, including 3ds max, Maya, and Lightwave, as well as being available as an integrated part of Maxon’s CINEMA 4D 3D modeling package. With the second release of BodyPaint 3D, MAXON is has added features designed to appeal to game developers, including Projection Painting, which allows the user to paint across UV seams (helping to obscure them), and RayBrush, which displays mapped textures in real time. Other features include improved data exchange with the DCC programs, and better OpenGL rendering (with the ability to switch between hardware and software rendering—the latter being optimized for use while painting).
