Konami has confirmed several new details related to its upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, including a street date, online multiplayer, and pre‐sell program. The game, generally perceived as one of PlayStation 3's most important third-party exclusives, will release on June 12th, 2008, in North America, Europe and Japan. Konami also says the title will launch with a starter pack for Metal Gear Online which supports online gameplay, adding a multiplayer mode for up to 16-players. Konami also revealed a pre-order program for MGS4, by which consumers who pre-order the game beginning April 2008 will receive a Metal Gear Saga prologue DVD featuring a recap of the franchise, a 20th Anniversary retrospective, character bios for Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Solid Snake, plus a collection of international MGS4 trailers. The pre-order package will also contain a download code and instructions to access the Metal Gear Online beta test set to go live in late April. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots sends recurring protagonist Solid Snake on his final mission, with the objective of stopping seminal enemy Liquid Ocelot in his plans for world domination. Konami CEO Kazumi Kitaue commented, "Blockbuster events and premieres are a tradition of the summer. We anticipate that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots fits that bill perfectly, and consumers will be waiting in line to get their copy of the game just like it’s a hit Hollywood movie.”
