Czech Republic-based JetBrains has announced the release of IntelliJ IDEA version 5, the latest version of its intelligent Java IDE. The new version of the Java integrated development environment (IDE) includes full support of JSP 2.0, HTML, CSS, JavaSript, and property files, and expands J2EE and J2ME support. Over 200 new code inspections are included, such as detection of possible NullPointerExceptions and API contract compliance verification based on Java 5.0 annotations that allow for validation of code in the editor as one is coding. Other additions include Subversion and Perforce VCS integrations, enhanced Codebase navigation and presentation, and a more flexible debugger. “Developers, like athletes, sometimes refer to being ‘in the flow’ or ‘in the zone,’ where time recedes in the background and a person’s abilities open to their fullest,” explained Eugene Belyaev, president and CTO of JetBrains. “Tools that help developers reach this superstate are invaluable because developer productivity skyrockets, as those who use IntelliJ IDEA often attest.”
